Call Of Duty Games and their popularity
First person shooters are one of the most commonly played video games. They have also been voted “game style of choice” in several online surveys. The Call Of Duty series is something that has swept the nations youth with overwhelming success. The game series is played by nearly 300 million people and has a whopping nine games to its collection. The games themselves can be played on several platforms including: Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PC. Call Of Duty games have also seen their share of controversy over the years. Parents claim that the game is too violent and much too graphic and should not be allowed to be in the reach of their children.
Highest grossing Call of Duty Games
As many of entrepreneurs may know, their creations and ideas may not go as far as they would like nor they bring in as much income as they would prefer. The series has been known to top the charts with its high grossing products. The facts that are about to be stated are from the first five days after the games were released. Modern Warfare 2 was able to pull in $550 million in gross revenue in its first five days. Black Ops, which was released by Treyarch and not Infinity Ward, was able to gross $650 million. The game that made the highest gross revenue in that time period was Modern Warfare 3. it smashed records bringing in a whopping $755 million less than one week after its release date. That is not to mention what it accomplished during Christmas.

Call Of Duty – This was the original game to be released which started the craze. It was released Oct. 29th 2003. This particular game is surrounding the events of World War II. It was also accompanied by two expansion packs for the PC.
Call Of Duty: Finest Hour – The second release of the series which also takes place in World War II. It has 3 different campaign moduels: The American Campaign, The British Campaign, and The Soviet Campaign. It was released Nov. 16th 2004.
Call Of Duty 2: – This was the direct sequel to Call Of Duty. It was released Oct. 25th 2005 for the PC and November 15th for the Xbox 360. It has four separate campaigns and they break themselves down into three parts.
Call Of Duty 2: Big Red One – The Bid Red One was released November 1st 2005. It is also based around World War II. It is from the perspective of an American Private for the majority of the game except during the Italian Campaign.
Call Of Duty 3: – The campaign for this game is different from the other COD games because it is the first one to follow a single campaign throughout the game. The story line follows the events at the breakout of normany, during World War II. It follows one player through four countries. It was released November 7th 2006 for all systems besides Playstation 3 and The Wii, which was released one week later.
Call Of Duty: Roads To Victory: – Following several playable characters through three campaigns: American, British, and Canadian. Starting in Italy following an American soldier who is with a group who is attemping to recapture Altavilla from the Germans. This was released March 14th 2007 for the Playstation Portable (PSP).
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Follow Soap and Price through World War II. This game is different than the other COD’s because of the in depth ‘movie scenes’ that the characters act out. There are multiple playable character perspectives. It was released November 5th 2007. In 2009, Tryearch released Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition.
Call Of Duty: World At War - This game is with two campaigns: The American and The Soviet Campaign. This is the only installment in the series that does not contain a British campaign. It was released November 11th 2008. It also spawned another game World At War: Final Fronts and is almost entirely seperate from the original. It has an entire set of missions that are its own about the U.S. fighting in the Pacific theater and the Battle Of The bulge in Europe, and also the British advancing on the Rhine River into Germany.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – This game is a direct continuation from Modern Warfare and is set five years from the end of it. It starts off in the year 2016. It was released November 9th 2009 and has influenced another game to be made afterwards. It was said that it generated over one billion dollars revenue just two months after its release.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops - The majority of events in this game are told through the eyes of SOG and CIA Operative Alex Mason. These are flashbacks generated by questions from an mysterious interrogator. It comes with an installment from World At War called Zombies where you fight off hordes of zombies and advance through the maps. Black Ops was released November 9th 2010.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – This game was a collaboration by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games. It is an upgraded version of the Modern Warfare 2 engine and the engine is more commonly referred to as the “MW3 Engine”. The game takes place directly following Captain Price and Nikolai. It was released on November 81th 2011. It has a spectacular new game module called Survival mode where you fight off hordes of enemies while trying to find supplies. It can be played with a single player, multiplayer, or on Xbox live.
